Art Enrichment SESSIONS:   If you missed out on an event, you might find a recording of it here. You have controls in the bottom left corner of each recording.

Tessellations (Math Detectives)
We explore what a tessellation is and the work of M. C. Escher. Using the attached guide, teaching tessellations, we create our own. Math terms used: estimation, simple multiplication, fraction folding, transformation, reflection, rotation, translation. There are several guides attached to the recording for additional exploration of tessellation.
From Tessellation to Non-Objective Artwork
This session follows the Math Detectives Tessellation session. You must have a tessellation to begin. We start with an easy way to make a correct view finder and then use the view finder to help us enlarge a small part of our tessellation into a large non-objective artwork.
All Art Students- Tracing Tricks & Advantages
Break the learning barrier that "tracing is cheating"! Tracing is practice and can be blended into works of art as well. The goal in this session is to improve your drawing skill by first tracing and then having you work toward drawing without a trace. After working along with the session, trace the same image over and over - without coloring until the movements of your hands record in your memory. Then see if you can draw it yourself. Choose something fun for you and move on to more challenging images. Have a stack of images on the breakfast table. It takes less than 5 minutes to trace most subjects and will improve your confidence in mastering visual matter.
Get Contest Art $mart- all ages- all students
Learn about on-line contest safety, scholarship, awards and other important contest details that help your work look it's best. One thing I forgot to mention- Photographing your work:Place the art on a wall to photograph it so that you don't have strange shadows or skewed angles. Take it outside during the day if you can't keep the flash from going off. Placing your art on a plain background makes the art look professional. (keep the same piece of mat board around for this purpose)

A truly brilliant art performance
This video shows the winner of 2009’s "Ukraine ’s Got Talent", Kseniya Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II. Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to watch. Who hasn't drawn their fingers in the sand? but her efforts earned a $75,000 prize.
A similar exercise even young toddlers can do is to get a white board and let them add paint and wipe it clean themselves after making an image with fingers or brushes. (if they make something you want to keep you just photograph it) The idea of letting students experiment and not worry about the paper, supplies or perfection is the key.
